Undertaken for Pacific Salmon Foundation | 2008
Counterpoint Consulting Inc was retained by the Pacific Salmon Foundation, with funding provided by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, to assess the economic value and impacts of aboriginal, sport and commercial fisheries on Skeena watershed salmonids. Based on interviews of participants and data from their operations, financial and economic models were constructed for each sector. These were used to estimate the economic value of each sector and its economic impacts in the local and provincial economy. A detailed analysis was made of the value chain in the commercial sector. Case studies of innovative fisheries management and marketing were included to provide guidance to watershed managers and stakeholders as they move forward implmenting DFO's Wild Salmon Policy.
